DAILY CHILD PROTECTION BRIEF · 2026.10.12

Kaohsiung · child-protection brief
When suspected abuse signals emerge, safety, medical care and placement must be put in place without delay.
Public reports state that a two-year-old girl in Kaohsiung’s Sanmin District was taken to hospital on the evening of 8 October and died the following morning. Medical staff reported unusual injuries to police and social-welfare authorities. During the investigation, the girl’s one-year-old brother was also found to have suspected abuse-related injuries and remains under hospital observation. Their sister, who is under seven, has been placed in emergency care by the Kaohsiung City Government.
Prosecutors state that the parents are suspected of intentional injury to a child and impairment of the development of a child under seven; the father is also under investigation for alleged drug-related offences. A court has ordered the parents detained without contact. Facts and legal responsibility remain subject to the investigation and judicial process.
Hospital observation must address present injuries while continuing to assess recovery and whether a safe return is possible.
Emergency placement must be followed by stable care, attention to sibling relationships and sustained support.
Medical, police and social-welfare teams need a clear handover and next step for every child.
Accountability and child protection must proceed together; public concern must not become doxxing or a pre-judgment.
Where a child may be experiencing mistreatment, neglect or immediate danger, call 110, 119, or the 113 Protection Hotline. A report can allow professionals to assess risk and begin protection even when the full circumstances are not yet known.
